Statement
The use of software on University owned devices must comply with Texas A&M System policies, U.S. Copyright Laws, and any contrational agreements for their use.
Applicability
This control applies to all West Texas A&M network information resources. The intended audience for this control includes all information resource owners, custodians, and users of information resources.
Implementation
- Information resource owners shall ensure:
- Software and associated documentation is used in accordance with contract agreements, Texas A&M University System (TAMUS) Regulation 29.01.02, Use of Licensed Software, and U.S. Copyright Laws;
- Use of all software shall be in accordance with contract or license agreements and copyright laws
- IT shall conduct periodic scans of desktop systems to track licensed software to ensure compliance with license quantities.
- IT shall also use technology to prevent the use of peer-to-peer file sharing technology to ensure this capability is not used for unauthorized reproduction of copyrighted work.
- Software that has not gone through appropriate approval process with IT shall be removed immediately.
