AU-8 Time Stamps
Last Review: 2/28/20
Statement
West Texas A&M University information system must use standardized clocks to generate time stamps for audit records to facilitate logging and monitoring.
Applicability
This Control applies to all West Texas A&M network information resources. The intended audience for this Control includes all information resource owners, custodians, and users of information resources.
Implementation
Information resource custodians are responsible for:
- Configuring information resources to use internal system clocks to generate time stamps, including date and time, for audit records. Where possible internal clocks shall be synchronized to a centralized NTP server managed by IT.
- Recording time stamps for audit records that can be mapped to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) or Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) within an acceptable degree of accuracy.
