Benefits

Health Care

Generally, employees can choose between two A&M care plans (PPO's) and FirstCare West Texas (HMO).

Under the A&M care plans, you may use any doctor, hospital or other provider and receive benefits. However, you receive higher benefits if you use a provider in the plan's network. The A&M care plans are administered by BlueCross BlueShield of Texas.

Other Benefits

Dental Insurance
The A&M Dental plan is designed to ensure that you receive good preventive care. The plan covers four types of care: Preventive (checkups, cleanings); Basic (fillings, root canals, extractions, endodontics); Major (crowns, dentures); and Orthodontics (braces). The Delta Dental HMO also covers most preventive, basic, major and orthodontic services. The plan has a schedule that lists your share of the cost of each dental service.

Vision
Provides coverage for eye exams, eyeglass frames and lenses, and contact lenses as well as discounts on some eye surgeries.

Wellness Incentive

The Texas A&M University System recognizes the importance of fostering employee wellness.  The Chancellor's Wellness Initiative includes a two-pronged approach:  incenting employees to have an annual wellness exam with their physician and engaging employees in healthy behaviors through campus- and agency-based programs encouraging wellness.
Upon completion of the wellness exam incentive, employees will be eligible for the lower wellness premium rate on health insurance premiums for the upcoming benefit plan year.

Highlights of the Wellness Exam Incentive:

  • Have a wellness exam between January 1, 2013 and June 30, 2014
  • Applies to employees AND covered spouses enrolled in the A&M Care Plan
  • A premium differential of $30 per month will be added to the premium for each individual (you and your spouse) who does not complete the wellness exam incentive by the June 30, 2014 deadline
  • Retirees will automatically receive the lower premium
  • BlueCross BlueShield will record the incentive completion through the claims payment process
  • You can verify your completion status for the wellness exam incentive on BlueCross BlueShield Access for Members (BAM) website.  The "Wellness Incentive Credit - Blue Cross Website" illustrates how to use the BCBS website to find out whether or not wellness credit has been applied

You may also contact BlueCross BlueShield member services (866) 295-1212 if you believe you have completed the exam incentive, but the information is not reflected in your BAM account.

The "Wellness Incentive Tips" includes a form that can be presented to your medical provider to explain the wellness incentive and what types of services will count toward the incentive.

In addition, the "Wellness Incentive Q&A" provides answers to many questions regarding the wellness incentive.  If you have any questions about the wellness initiative, please feel free to contact either Patti Patterson, at extension 2117 or Harvey Hudspeth at extension 2116.
