Authorized Caretakers. Faculty and students of wildlife biology at West Texas A&M are the authorized caretakers for almost 12,000 acres of land in Potter County, Texas. WTAMU formalized an agreement in 2006 with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to manage what is known as the Cross Bar Cooperative Management Area about 10 miles north of Amarillo. The Cross Bar serves as an outdoor classroom for students, who in turn provide expertise and manpower to help accomplish the property-management objectives of the BLM, improving the ecology and environmental aspects of the site.
