Recreational Opportunities

The Virgil Henson Activities Center (VHAC) provides a wide variety of recreational opportunities for students, faculty and staff, families and community members. The facility includes a recreational pool, weight room, bowling center, racquetball courts (including a wallyball court), an all-purpose gymnasium, game room, TV lounge, other all-purpose rooms.

Virgil Henson Activities Center

Built in 1970, the Virgil Henson Activities Center has recently undergone renovations. The "AC" is a haven for the young and old alike with features for students, faculty and staff, families and community members. With membership, you gain access to the center’s many features:

The general public is welcome to use the Virgil Henson Activities Center by purchasing a weekend pass, a Community membership, or a daily pass for $8.00 per person at the VHAC Member Services Desk.  ALL adult guests (16 years or older) MUST have a government issued picture ID in order to use the recreational facilities. ALL guests are required to sign in at the time of purchase at the VHAC Member Services Desk. Weekend passes are good for Friday at 6 pm until Sunday at 8 pm for one month from the day they are issued only and are non-transferable. All guests are subject to the same VHAC policies as our members. Please refer to our Policies and Procedures section in full details. 

Guest passes allow the holder to full access to the Virgil Henson Activities Center: Bowling, Game Room and Racquetball rentals are an additional charge. 

VHAC Facilities

Recreational Pool — Bring the kids for a day at the recreation pool equipped with a water slide, lazy river and vortex pool.

Weight Room — A 9,000 square foot facility enclosed in glass with a variety of equipment, keeps the whole family in shape with something for everyone. There are locker rooms for men, women, and family changing rooms. 

Bowling Lanes — Make it a date night or game night with buddies in the eight-lane bowling alley, complete with automatic scoring system and the option for lunar bowling.

Climbing Tower — Climbers can give the 40 foot tall climbing tower fashioned after the Light House structure in Palo Duro Canyon a try. The tower has paths for amateurs and experts, so everyone with an adventurous spirit can give it a try. 

All Purpose Courts — Runners and walkers will cover lots of ground on the suspended track while enjoying the benefits of being indoors and away from the elements. Basketball teams form quickly, but no need to worry, four regulation-size courts can accommodate up to eight pick-up teams.

The VHAC is also home to: Recreational Sports, Department of Sports and Exercise Sciences, Kids Kollege, the University’s child care center, as well as Student Medical Services.
