Building Basic Financial Skills Facilitator: Pat Hammit

Information in this session is structured with the student in mind. This information session provides the basics for setting up a budget and living within that budget. Balancing a checkbook, perils of debit and credit cards, and credit reports will be covered. This session will challenge you to follow the basics for managing your funds as a student.

Note-Taking/ Textbook Surveying Facilitator: SSS Staff

These sessions will focus on what participants should do before pen meets paper. It will cover topics like where you
should sit in class, preparation that should be done before class even begins, observing your environment, and
creating an area where you feel comfortable taking notes. It will also focus on what to write down, how to write it, and
overall how to get the most information into your notes. Students do not need to attend both sessions; the same

Almost everyone experiences test anxiety sometimes, but some students find it so overwhelming that it interferes with
their ability to take tests successfully. This session will provide skills and strategies to help manage anxiety before and
during tests.

Navigating an Online Class Facilitator: IIT Staff
September 30, 2010 Time: 12:15 – 12:55 Place: SSC 105
This session will help students taking an online class understand how the online education works here on
campus. Students will learn how to access classes, syllabi, grades, and ultimately make the most of their online
education. Tips for emailing professors will be provided as well as email and discussion board etiquette.

Resume Writing Facilitator: WT Career Services
October 12, 2010 Time: 12:15-12:55 Place: SSC 105
This workshop will assist your students in developing a resume from scratch or polishing their current one. We strongly recommend this workshop for ALL students as they begin the job search process. A résumé today is not the "historical"
document it was even 5-10 years ago, with the availability of personal computers, it has become a fluid and changing
document which must be personalized and targeted whenever possible. Our workshop offers the basic tools necessary for
developing an effective resume.

Interview Skills Facilitator: WT Career Services

Business Etiquette Luncheon Facilitator: Pat Hammit
October 14, 2010 Time: 12:15-12:55 Place: SSC 105
As graduation grows near many students find that they are put into situations where they must entertain a potential
employer in an environment outside of school. In order to make the most of these situations potential employees need to
have correct etiquette as another method of impressing their potential employer. This session will provide those tips over a
formal meal. This session is limited to the first 15 students who RSVP.

New SSS Students
New SSS students will be required to maintain weekly and monthly advising appointments during their first semester of services. Attending all scheduled meetings in combination with using other services can qualify SSS students for special rewards.
Returning SSS Students
Returning students will be required to maintain monthly advising appointment each semester they return to get services. Attending all scheduled meetings in combination with using other services can qualify students for special rewards.

Each year SSS provides tutoring to our students for much of the core curriculum. All tutors have been recommended by the faculty and they provide great insight into understanding the covered material during the tutoring session. Additionally with excellent communication skills many of our tutors
Students who need tutoring will be responsible for attending their weekly
50-minute sessions with their tutor. Students getting tutored need to come to tutoring prepared with all course materials so the tutoring session will be beneficial for the student.
About the Tutors
All SSS tutors are at least junior undergraduates. They have all been recommended by WTAMU faculty members, and have maintained at least a 3.25 overall GPA. They also must have made at least a 3.0 for any course they tutored and be able to tutor a variety of subjects. Tutors will be responsible for attending monthly tutor training sessions and
completing weekly administrative paperwork.
