WTAMU to Host Two MLK Celebration Events

CANYON, Texas—West Texas A&M University’s Office for Diversity and Inclusion will host two events commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Wednesday, Jan. 15 at the Jack B. Kelley Student Center, Legacy Hall.

A Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership Birthday Celebration, “Leading with Dr. King Into Our Future,” will begin at 12:15 p.m., and the second event planned for the day is a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Celebration of Equality at 7 p.m. Both events are open to the public.

DeMetris Reed, a graduate student in animal science, will be the keynote speaker at the 12:15 p.m. event. Gary Newell, Founders Hall Resident Assistant and student leader of the Collegiate Gospel Church of the Baptist, will be the featured speaker at the 7 p.m. presentation. The Collegiate Gospel Church Praise Team with Baptist Student Ministry and the WTAMU Choir, under the direction of Dr. Sean Pullen, director of choral activities, will participate at both the afternoon and evening celebrations.

Sponsors for the events are the WT Black Student Union Association, WT Black Women Association, Collegiate Gospel Church, Baptist Student Ministry, WTAMU School of Music and the WTAMU Diversity Committee.
