WTAMU to Host Texas Tribune Event with Seliger, Smithee and Price

CANYON, Texas—The 83rd legislative session will be the topic of a lunchtime conversation with Sen. Kel Seliger and Reps. John Smithee and Four Price from 11:30 a.m.- 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7 at West Texas A&M University’s Jack B. Kelley Student Center, Legacy Hall. The event, hosted by WTAMU and The Texas Tribune, will be moderated by Evan Smith, CEO and editor-in-chief of The Texas Tribune.

In addition to the lunchtime conversation, Dr. J. Patrick O’Brien, University president, and Tommy Williams, vice chancellor for federal and state relations with The Texas A&M University System, will recognize Seliger, Smithee and Price for their dedication to higher education and their commitment to the state of Texas during the 83rd legislative session.

“It only seems fitting to recognize and honor these three men,” O’Brien said. “They are members of our community and represent well the interests of not only our region but also higher education. We are proud of what they do for the Texas Panhandle and for West Texas A&M University.”

Seliger, serves as chairman of the Higher Education Committee and serves on the Open Government, Education, Finance and Natural Resources committees. Smithee, a WTAMU alumnus, is chairman of the House Insurance Committee and serves on the State Affairs Committee. Price is a member of the Appropriations, Redistricting, Licensing and Administrative Procedures committees, and  is a member of the Select Committee on Transparency in State Agency Operations. He also serves as Vice Chair of the Sunset Advisory Commission.

The event is free and open to the public, and a complimentary lunch will be served. Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m., and the conversation with Seliger, Smithee and Price will start at noon.
