WTAMU Symphony Concert to Feature Guest Conductor
CANYON, Texas—The West Texas A&M University Symphony will perform its spring concert under the direction of guest conductor Luis Miguel Clemente at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 22 at Mary Moody Northen Recital Hall on campus. Clemente’s residency is made possible by the WTAMU Guest Artist Series.
The program for the evening concert will include Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony, Sibelius’ Finlandia and Jenkin’s Solitude from “The Peacemakers,” featuring violin soloist Havuka Lund. Clemente will be directing WTAMU’s 65-member orchestra, which is comprised of both undergraduate and graduate students.
In addition to his guest conducting, Clemente will work with WTAMU’s conducting classes and meet with graduate student conductors. Clemente, a native of Portugal, is music director of the Atlantic Coast Orchestra and a conducting pedagogue. As a conductor, he has led orchestras and wind bands from France, Hungary, Romania, Canada, the United States and Portugal. He has taught conducting around the globe, most recently at Oxford Conducting Institute in England. He has earned numerous degrees and certificates, including an Investigators Degree in music, text and drama, a master’s degree in performing arts, post graduate specialization in contemporary music conducting, and more.
