WTAMU’s Online Health Science Program Earns Top 25 Ranking


CANYON, Texas—West Texas A&M University ranks No. 25 on the list of 2018 Best Online Bachelor’s Degree in Health Sciences by Bestcolleges.com.

Partnering with HigherEducation.com, Bestcolleges.com provides students with direct connections to schools and programs suiting their educational goals through rankings of institutions with a quality education and meaningful learning experience at an affordable cost.

Schools featured in this ranking demonstrate a commitment to high-quality education measured and weighted through various data points that are specific to each ranking topic. Criteria is divided 50 percent for academic quality including admission, enrollment and retention rates, 25 percent for affordability including average net price, percentage of enrolled students taking federal loans and loan default rate and 25 percent for online programming.

WTAMU received a collective high score of 51.28 and favorably noted for offering online and hybrid health science programs that can be a bachelor’s degree in either arts or science and sufficiently prepares graduates with courses like medical ethics, legal aspects of healthcare and health promotion to work in hospitals and long-term care facilities.

Dirk Nelson, dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, said. “We exist to prepare highly qualified and ethical graduates for work in a variety of health professions, thus enhancing the quality of life for the region.”

WTAMU is one of only two Texas schools to be mentioned, the other being Texas Woman’s University (No. 22). Others include George Washington University (No.4), Arizona State University (No. 5) and three among the most-prestigious Association of American Universities - Ohio State University (No. 7), University of Iowa (No. 8) and University of Missouri (No. 18).

Additionally, WTAMU ranked No. 9 in 2018 Best Online Bachelor’s Programs by U.S. News & World Report and No. 1 for 2017 Best Online Bachelor’s in Public Health / Health Sciences: Students Before Profits Award by nonprofitcollegesonline.com.
