WTAMU’s Agribusiness Club Receives AAEA Award
CANYON, Texas—A breast cancer awareness event has earned the Agribusiness Club at West Texas A&M University the 2013 Creative Club Award from the student section of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association. The WTAMU organization received its award at the annual AAEA awards and fellows recognition ceremony Aug. 5 in Washington, D.C.
The Creative Club Award was established by AAEA’s student section to recognize and reward undergraduate organizations in agribusiness and agricultural economics for demonstrating excellence and leadership through an organizational activity. The WTAMU Agribusiness Club was recognized for its Pink Ribbon Breakfast in October 2012. The breast cancer awareness event was designed and implemented by the students, and 100 percent of the proceeds were donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
Lauren Christy, WTAMU Agribusiness Club president, and Dr. Mallory Vestal, co-adviser, accepted the award on behalf of the club. The University of Florida received second place, followed by Mississippi State University in third.
The officers and advisers recognize and thank Dr. Kathleen Brooks, assistant professor of agricultural business and economics, for her leadership and guidance to the Agribusiness Club during her tenure at WTAMU.
