CANYON, Texas—The West Texas A&M University livestock judging team opened its 2013 season with an 11th place overall finish at the National Western Stock Show Jan. 17-18 in Denver, Colo.

In individual placings, WTAMU’s Rhet Long, a junior animal science major from Vernal, Utah, was fourth in swine.

“I am proud of my team and their performance in Denver,” Marcus Arnold, livestock judging coach, said. “It was an extremely competitive contest, and this should serve as a stepping stone for the team and their progression this semester.”

The six-member team, coached by Arnold and assistants Jeff Long and Karl Miller, will compete throughout the spring semester with events at the Southwestern Livestock Exposition Intercollegiate Judging Contest in Fort Worth, the San Antonio Stock Show Livestock Judging Contest and at Houston’s annual Livestock Show and Rodeo Intercollegiate Livestock Judging Contest.
