WTAMU kicks off Homecoming Week

CANYON, Texas—Students, alumni members and University supporters are invited back to Canyon for West Texas A&M University’s final Homecoming game at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium starting at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6 against University of Texas – Permian Basin.

Just shy of 60 years, Kimbrough Memorial Stadium has been the game place of the WTAMU football team and fans every season since 1959. In 2016, students rallied behind the idea of a new stadium that would be more accessible from campus, and the following year, officials announced an agreement-in-principal with the Canyon Independent School District for the transfer of Kimbrough Memorial Stadium.

Buffalo Stadium is expected to be finished fall 2019 on-campus with ample space for tailgating and fan participation. Until then, WTAMU students and fans can expect to view the Buffalo team from their usual Kimbrough Memorial Stadium seats for a handful more games including Homecoming this Saturday.

With the theme “Deep in the Heart of West Texans,” Homecoming week is full of campus activities and most are available to the community.
