WTAMU Graduate Student Receives TOWA Klepper Memorial Scholarship
CANYON, Texas—For the second consecutive year, Jessie Story, a graduate student in communication at West Texas A&M University, has been named the recipient of the Dan Klepper Memorial Scholarship from the Texas Outdoor Writers Association (TOWA). Story was recognized at the association’s 59th annual conference Feb. 23-26 at the La Torretta Lake Resort in Montgomery.
The Dan Klepper Memorial Scholarship is for Texas students who are pursuing a career in the field of communication related to the outdoors, environmental conservation or wildlife management and conservation. The $2,000 scholarship honors the memory of Klepper, who was an outdoor writer for the San Antonio Express-News and one of the founders of the Texas Outdoor Writers Association.
Story was eligible for the work communicating environmental and wildlife conservation issues with the public through Texas Wild and solo collaborations with fellow wildlife filmmakers. Her childhood fascination with wildlife has turned into a passion that she shares on television and social media to educate and inform others about the beauty of the outdoors.
Story presented some of her work at the annual meeting.
