“United is dedicated to improving our community by promoting health awareness and providing guests with knowledge about the impact of making healthy choices,” said Robin Hawkins, director of health and wellness for United Supermarkets, LLC. “The students at West Texas A&M are extremely well-trained, and they will be a tremendous resource for our guests.”

Each free health screening will include basics such as measuring height, weight, blood pressure, blood sugar and body mass index (BMI). The 24 students, who are studying Populations Nursing, also will discuss educational topics with guests, including type 2 diabetes, heart health, strokes and more.

“As part of the nursing faculty, we encourage our students to seek opportunities to demonstrate their health care knowledge and skills in a variety of settings,” said Nancy Turrubiates, instructor of nursing at WTAMU. “This partnership with United is an excellent way to give our students real-world experience, while also helping members of our community.”

Lead instructors for the course are Turrubiates and Kathleen Porter. For more information, contact Turrubiates at 806-651-2639.
