Skinner Named Interim VP for Student Affairs at WTAMU
CANYON, Texas—Denese Skinner, director of Career Services, has been named as interim vice president for Student Affairs at West Texas A&M University. She will start her new duties on Monday, July 9.
Skinner will fill the position vacated by Dr. Don Albrecht, who is joining Texas A&M University—Corpus Christi as vice president for Student Engagement and Success. As the interim vice president for Student Affairs, Skinner will take on a full range of duties that include overseeing programs, organizations and services in student affairs, the Jack B. Kelley Student Center, recreational sports, Student Government, residential living, student services, educational services and student judicial affairs.
“I am extremely pleased Denese has agreed to take on this new senior leadership role at WT,” Dr. J. Patrick O’Brien, WTAMU president, said. “She brings to the position a wealth of experience and a passion for enhancing the University experience for our students.”
Skinner joined the WTAMU staff in 1993 and has served the University as director of Career and Counseling Services, director of Enrollment Management and as interim dean of Enrollment Management. She has 18 years of leadership experience in higher education and seven years as a public school teacher and coach. Skinner is a two-time winner of the University’s coveted Clarence E. Thompson Staff Excellence Award (1998 and 2007), recipient of the WTAMU President’s Community Service Award and is an active member of numerous committees across campus.
She is a licensed professional counselor and a certified professional vocational counselor. Skinner earned a bachelor’s degree in education in 1982 from Texas Tech University and a master’s degree in education, professional counseling in 1992 from WTAMU.
