PPHR Submission Guidelines

Articles

Panhandle-Plains Historical Review welcomes submission of previously unpublished scholarly articles relevant to the history and culture of the Texas Panhandle, West Texas, and the Southern High Plains Region. Articles may be 15 to 30 pages in length and should follow the style and formatting guidelines specified below. Please include copies of any media such as photos, tables, figures, or additional reference material as part of the submitted article in the order it is to be printed. To facilitate the blind review process, please include a seperate title sheet with the author name, title, and the date of  submission; all subsequent pages should include only title and page number in the header.

Book Reviews

Book reviews should provide a clear synopsis or summary of the reviewed work and point to its overall strengths and weaknesses. In addition to providing a professional critique of the content, argument, and/or style of the book under review, the reviewer should assess the work within a historical or scholarly context. All reviews must be 300 to 400 words in length.

Formatting

  • Follow the Chicago Manual of Style 16th (2010) edition.
  • Double spaced
  • Concise endnotes. (Although PPHR prefers the endnote format, there are certainly cases in which footnotes would be acceptable.)
  • All margins 1”
  • Use Times New Roman font, 12 pt. font size
