Finding Books

Books comprise the foundation of the library's collection. Whether as lengthy expository essays, novels, or collections of shorter essays or short stories, they are the grandest products of thought and effort on the part of authors and editors. Broadly speaking, books are the manifestations of creativity to which shorter and more ephemeral intellectual products, such as journal articles and lectures, respond.

The Cornette Library's book collection includes publications in the durable, portable, and exceptionally high-resolution paper format as well as the eminently searchable and remotely accessible electronic format. The library also provides access to information about the availability of books at many other libraries, near and far, and, through our interlibrary loan and circulation services, various methods for gaining access to them.

Cornette Library's Online Catalog

Our online catalog includes all books (print or online), journals, government documents, multimedia formats, etc. available at the Cornette Library. Web sites, both subscription and free, are also linked through the catalog. You can search it by author, title, Library of Congress subject heading, or a variety of keyword options. For the most recent additions to our collection, please check out our list of new loan books.

Harrington Library Consortium

HLC's combined catalog allows you to search the library holdings of over 50 libraries in the Texas Panhandle, including the Amarillo College Lynn Library, the Amarillo Public Libraries, and the Canyon Public Library. To search the catalog, choose the type of search, type in your search terms, choose one or all libraries collections, and then click on the type of search to run. If you are unsure of which type of search to run, we recommend the default keyword. If you do not have an HLC library card, ask at the Circulation Desk about how to borrow books from HLC libraries.

WorldCat is a general database of over 45 million books, Web sites, computer data files, computer programs, films and slides, journals, magazines, manuscripts, maps, musical scores, newspapers, sound recordings, and videotapes held by libraries around the world. To limit your search just to books, click on Documents Type and choose books. Those books not available in the Cornette Library can be borrowed through Interlibrary Loan using OCLC's ILL link [OCLC ILL link]. The Cornette Library's access to WorldCat is made available by TexShare, a service of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission.
