FAQ: What Happens If I Lose a Book?

Lost Library Materials

If you lose a book, you are responsible for paying the replacement cost of the book as well as any overdue charges that might have accrued. The replacement cost include the current market price of the library materials plus a $10 processing fee.

Damaged Library Materials

If you damage a book, you are responsible for payment of all fees associated with the repair or replacement of the material as determined by the library staff. Damage fees range from $5.00 to the replacement cost of the materials. The replacement cost include the current market price of the library materials plus a $10 processing fee.

Payment

Payment is made at the Circulation Desk by cash, check, Buffalo Gold Card, or credit/debit card. MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and American Express cards are accepted in the library. Credit card payments may be handled over the telephone at 806/651-2223 or through our online payment form.

Delinquent Accounts

Failure to pay for materials that have been lost or damaged will result in administrative restrictions being placed on your transcript. Until payment is received your ability to enroll may be blocked as well as your access to financial assistance. After 180 days, if no payment has been received, the account will be referred to a credit bureau for collection procedures.
