FAQ: What Library Materials Can I Check Out?
All library materials are checked out at the Circulation Desk. Questions about the location of materials in the Library can be answered at the Circulation Desk. Questions about searching the Online Catalog and Power Search, as well as other research questions, should be directed to the Reference Librarians at the Reference Desk located near the computers on the first floor.
All books in the Loan Collection located on the first and second floors of the northeast corner of the Library may be checked out. Library of Congress call numbers beginning with A-L are located upstairs and those beginning with M-Z are located downstairs.
Course Reserves must be checked out even though some of them can only be used in the library for two hours. Some reserve items may be checked out for 1 day, 3 days, or 7 days. They cannot be renewed and must be returned to the Reserve book drop in the west end of the Circulation Desk.
Instructional Resource Center (IRC)
Most of the books in the IRC Collection may be checked out. This collection consists of books and learning resources that have been adopted by the State of Texas for instructional purposes in Texas public school grades K through 12. The IRC Collection is located in the extreme southwest corner of the first floor of the Library. Assistance with this collection may be obtained from the Reference Librarians and/or the IRC Director whose office is located in the hall near the IRC Collection.
Since these books are exceptionally large they are kept on Loan shelves at the end of the Z section on the first floor. They are located in the northeast corner of the library and may be checked out.
Books in the Paperback Collection may also be checked out. These books are located on the first floor west of the Circulation Desk and the Youth Collection.
U.S. and Texas Government Documents
Cornette Library is a depository for government documents. All of these materials may be checked out unless they have been stamped "Non-Circulating." This collection is located in the southeast corner on the second floor of the library. Questions regarding these items should be directed to the library staff at the Documents Desk located near this Collection and/or the Reference librarians at the Reference Desk on the first floor.
The Youth Collection is located on the first floor of the Library just west of the Circulation Desk. All books in this collection may be checked out.
Materials That Cannot Be Checked Out
Reference materials located in the southeast corner of the first floor of the Library may not be checked out. Likewise Periodicals, which are located in the northwest corner of the second floor of the Library, may not be checked out. Other materials that do not circulate include Special Collections items, non-circulating government documents, and some Course Reserves. Exception: WTAMU Faculty, TA's, GA's and PTI's may check out Current and Bound Periodicals at the Circulation Desk.
