Sociology Program Scholarships Jane Addams Memorial Scholarship This scholarship was established in 1988 to be awarded to students with a minimum of nine hours in social work or sociology, with at least a 2.5 Grade Point Average on all work at West Texas A&M University and who exhibit financial need. Brian M. Beckley Scholarship This scholarship was established by Robert and Cheryl Beckley in memory of their son, Brian. The receipient must be a sociology major, and selection is base on Grade Point Average. Dorothy Gimp Brand Scholarship This scholarship was established by Myrna Gimp Raffkind, former West Texas A&M University student and faculty member, and her husband, Daniel, in honor of her mother. Recipients will be outstanding professional candidates in psychology, sociology, or social work; based upon academic records and potential. Mahatma Gandhi Scholarship This scholarship was established in 1982 by the Indian Association of Amarillo for students majoring in sociology and/or social work. A scholarship of at least $200 will be awarded each year. Applicants must have a minimum of a 2.5 Grade Point Average and have completed 60 credit hours. Nona L. Moore Scholarship This scholarship was established in 1988 by a gift from the estate of Nona L. Moore. Awards are made to social work, sociology, and psychology majors who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance and have attended West Texas A&M University for at least two regular semesters. Hubert W. Oppe Scholarship This scholarship was established by the Department of Psychology, Sociology, and Social Work of Oppe's distinguished career as a sociologist at West Texas A&M University. Awards are made to social work, sociology, ans psychology majors who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance and have attended West Texas A&M University for at least two regular semesters. |
