Buffalo Marching Band

The Buffalo Marching Band has firmly established itself as one of the finest marching bands in the nation. It will typically perform at five or six home football games at Kimbrough Stadium, march in two parades and travel to one out of town football game to support the Buffalo Football Team. The Buffalo Marching Band is frequently asked to perform exhibition performances at marching festivals and contests in the state of Texas.

Membership is open to students of all disciplines without audition. The band consists of approximately 80% music majors and 20% non-music majors.  The band rehearses Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11:00-12:50. At the end of football season, the Marching Band divides into the Symphonic Band (auditioned) and the Concert/University Bands (non-auditioned) for the duration of the fall semester.

Symphonic Band

The Symphonic Band will perform at the 2016 Texas Music Educators Association Convention in February, This is the Symphonic Band’s fourteenth appearance at TMEA. This is a record among university bands in the state of Texas.

In the fall, members participate in the Buffalo Marching Band until the end of football season and then (following a successful mid-semester audition) form the Symphonic Band to play one concert at the end of the semester.  Fall rehearsals follow the marching band schedule of Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11:00-12:50.  In the spring, the Symphonic Band performs multiple times including a concert tour, with rehearsals continuing on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11:00-12:50.

Concert/University Bands

The Concert and University Bands consist of 50-70 members. consists of 70-90 members. Membership is open to the entire student body and an audition is not required. The only prerequisite is that the members have successfully participated in their high school band program.  In the fall, members of the Concert/University Bands participate in the Buffalo Marching Band during football season and play one concert at the end of the semester.  Fall rehearsals follow the marching band schedule of Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11:00-12:50.  In the spring, the Concert/University Bands perform twice with rehearsals on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 11:00-12:50.
