Monica Smith Hart Assistant Professor Office: Classroom Center 319N Email: msmith@wtamu.edu Phone: 806-651-2477 Professional Profile Dr. Monica Smith Hart (Ph.D. University of Georgia, 2005) joined the WTAMU faculty in 2006. She holds a B.F.A. in theatrical performance from Auburn University and a M.A. in English from the University of Georgia. Teaching and Related Service Dr. Smith teaches courses in 19th-century British literature, both the Romantics and the Victorians, with a particular focus on poetry. A longtime member of Sigma Tau Delta, the English Honor society, she serves as graduate student adviser for the WTAMU chapter of Sigma Tau Delta. Research and Creative Activity Dr. Smith's research interests include nationalism and exile in verse, working-class poetry and autobiography, feminist theory, and New Formalism. Currently she is at work on two projects, one focusing the early patriotic verse of Victorian poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson and one centering on Byronic nationalisms in 19th-century poetry. Personal Sketch Dr. Smith lives in Amarillo with her husband, Dr. David Hart, assistant professor of Philosophy here at WTAMU, and their son, Jeremy. She is an enthusiastic amateur photographer, a pretty good cook, and a devoted follower of "Top Chef" and "Project Runway." |
