Melody Aye Loya, Ph.D.
Associate Professor of Social Work

Dr. Loya joined the Department of Psychology, Sociology and Social Work in 2000. She received a B.S. in social work (BSW) from West Texas A&M University in 1993, a M.S. in social work (MSSW) from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1997 and a Ph.D. in human services from Capella University in 2007.
Teaching and Related Service
Dr. Loya teaches across the social work program curriculum offering both traditional face-to-face courses and has developed several online courses. She has several online courses offered through Education on Demand. Education on Demand Courses include SOCW/SOCI 4320 (Perspectives on Loss & Grief); SOCW 4303 (Social Services to Children and Families) and SOCW/PSYC 2315 (Human Behavior and Personal Adjustment). She is currently the MSSW Program Director.
Dr. Loya enjoys developing and leading short-term study abroad programs to Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic.
Research and Creative Activity
Dr. Loya's research interests include immigration, cultural sensitivity, and study abroad programs.
Personal Sketch Dr. Loya lives in Amarillo with her husband, one spoiled chihauhau and two equally spoiled cats. She enjoys traveling as much as possible. She has two daughters and six grandchildren. Her current hobby is trying to learn Spanish!
