Darla D. Beaty, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor of Social Work

Dr. Beaty joined the Department of Psychology, Sociology and Social Work in 2010 after attaining her Ph.D. in social work from the University of Houston. She has worked as a social worker in a variety of medical, regulatory and psychiatric settings since earning her M.S.S.W. from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1980. Prior to that, she received a B.A. in English from Stephen F. Austin State University.
Teaching and Related Service
Dr. Beaty taught several courses as Adjunct Faculty at the Graduate College of Social Work at the University of Houston, including administrative practice, grant writing for social work and the underrepresentation of minority males in the criminal justice system. She teaches primarily in the M.S.W. program and is teaching direct practice. She is also teaching undergraduate community practice and statistics for the social sciences.
Research and Creative Activity
Dr. Beaty is a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), the Council on Social Work Educators (CSWE), the Gerontology Society of America (GSA) as well as the Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research (PRIM&R). She has presented professional papers at each of their annual conferences and was a Hartford Pre-Dissertation Doctoral Fellow in conjunction with GSA.
