Professional Profile

Dr. Cain joined the Department of Communication in 2010. He received three degrees from The University of Alabama: a B.A. in Journalism in 1996; an M.A. in Journalism in 2002; and a Ph.D. in Communication and Information Sciences in 2007. His graduate studies focused on media history and American history. Before arriving at WT, he taught English language skills in South Korea and spent a decade as news director of Alabama Public Radio.

Teaching and Related Service

Dr. Cain has redesigned WT's journalism program to include four core courses: Multimedia Journalism, Audio Journalism, Feature Writing, and International Journalism. He also teaches Travel Writing as an occasional Study Abroad course focusing on travel to Asia. He serves as advisor to The Prairie, WTAMU's student news organization.

Research and Creative Activity

Dr. Cain is a media historian who also focuses his research on international journalism and free press issues.

Dr. Cain is a past president of the Canyon Rotary Club and enjoys traveling whenever possible.
