Gary Barnes Vice President for Business and Finance Gary Barnes has served as vice president for business and finance since October 1995, but he became a member of the University staff long before that. A native of Plainview, Barnes joined the staff as an accountant upon his 1978 graduation from what was then West Texas State University. He advanced through the administrative ranks swiftly, serving as assistant director of business services and director of accounting within two years. He was appointed University controller in 1987, and he served as controller and associate vice president for business and finance from May 1991 through September 1995. As vice president for business and finance, Barnes' duties include the oversight of the accounting and business office, payroll, personnel, purchasing and inventory, bookstore, environmental safety, University police, budget office, risk management and one-card system. Barnes is involved in community and volunteer work including activities at the First United Methodist Church in Canyon; the Panhandle-Plains Historical Society; the WTAMU Foundation; and the Wesley Foundation. Past activities include the United Way Citizens Budget Committee; the Education Credit Union of Amarillo; Happy State Bank Advisory Board; Kiwanis Club; Boy Scouts; Leadership Amarillo; and the Canyon Independent School District Foundation. Barnes and his wife Cindy have two sons, Ryan and John. Gary Barnes
