Owens earned his B.B.A. in finance in 1964 and his M.B.A. in finance in 1965 from West
Texas A&M University. He earned his D.B.A. in finance from Harvard University in 1971.
Owens teaches Corporate Finance, Corporate Governance, and Finance Theory both in the physical classroom and online.
1996 to present: National Community Bank School, teach two topics to first year students in
an executive education experience for community bankers at Texas Tech University.
Courses involved interest rate risk management and pricing bank services.
1978 to present: Pacific Coast Banking School, teach approximately 250 banking executives in a two week graduate banking school. Responsibility with a first year required course in Financial Principles and/or a second or third year elective course in International Finance.
The teaching and research areas of interest for Dr. Owens are corporate governance,
corporate finance, and bank management.
Owens has taught at WTAMU since 1978. He has enjoyed all of the students through the
years. He's now teaching the children of former students which, he says, means he's been
here a long time.
