WTAMU, Texas A&M System Honor Panhandle Legislators
CANYON, Texas—Officials at West Texas A&M University and The Texas A&M University System honored Sen. Kel Seliger and Reps. John Smithee and Four Price during a Texas Tribune-hosted lunchtime conversation Friday, Feb. 7 at WTAMU.
Dr. J. Patrick O’Brien, University president, and Tommy Williams, vice chancellor for federal and state relations with The Texas A&M University System, presented Seliger, Smithee and Price each with a token of appreciation signed by Chancellor John Sharp for their dedication to higher education and their commitment to the state of Texas during the 83rd legislative session.
“It is an honor to recognize these three men,” O’Brien said. “Each is a great supporter of higher education, and they collectively play a very important role for the future of higher education in the state of Texas and in the Panhandle, and we are grateful for all they do.”
Seliger, serves as chairman of the Higher Education Committee and serves on the Open Government, Education, Finance and Natural Resources committees. Smithee, a WTAMU alumnus, is chairman of the House Insurance Committee and serves on the State Affairs Committee. Price is a member of the Appropriations, Redistricting, Licensing and Administrative Procedures committees, and is a member of the Select Committee on Transparency in State Agency Operations. He also serves as Vice Chair of the Sunset Advisory Commission.
