WTAMU Gallery to Showcase Digital Collages and Video Exhibition

CANYON, Texas—West Texas A&M University alumna Victoria Taylor-Gore will open her digital collages and video exhibition titled “Pastoral, Works by Victoria Taylor-Gore” with a reception from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16 in the Mary Moody Northen Hall, Formal Art Gallery on campus.

Taylor-Gore, a 1983 WTAMU graduate, uses photographs and video of miniature sets and plastic toy animals in landscapes of the west to showcase her Pastoral exhibition She uses the cow images as both the iconic symbol of the Old West and as a feminine nurturing symbol of the Earth itself. The Pastoral video sets the digital collages in motion with a layering of old star and planet charts for a mystical twist.

The artist also used miniature toy deer in a mixture of photographs for a digital collage mixed with star and planet charts in “Dreaming Deer III.” The digital collage is full of symbolism and offers a glimpse at the universe we inhabit.

Taylor-Gore received her B.F.A. from WTAMU and a M.F.A in 1985 from the University of California at Santa Barbara. She is a professional artist and art educator with a passion for photography and video, creating short surreal films, photography and digital collages with symbolic characters in miniature interiors and landscapes. Taylor-Gore is chair of the visual arts, design and humanities department at Amarillo College and teaches both traditional and online classes in design, art history and art appreciation.

Her work has been exhibited professionally for the past 20 years in galleries across the United States including Santa Fe and Taos, N.M., New York, Dallas and Los Angeles as well as a traveling exhibition in China. Her video and photographic work has been published in Photo District News Magazine and featured in a variety of online film and photography sites.

Taylor-Gore’s Pastoral exhibition runs through Feb. 15. The Formal Art Gallery is open for viewing from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, call 806-651-2792.
