CANYON, Texas—Dr. Ashley Campbell of West Texas A&M University is one of five faculty members in The Texas A&M University System named as a 2013 recipient of the Chancellor’s Academy of Teacher Educators. The Academy recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of teacher education and highlights the role of the A&M System in producing K-12 teachers for the state of Texas.  Campbell, Helen Piehl Professor of education and associate professor of education, joins 2013 inductees Dr. Karen Sue Bradley, Texas A&M University—Kingsville; Dr. James Gentry, Tarleton State University; Dr.Barbara Hammack, Texas A&M University—Commerce; and Dr. Vincent P. Schielack Jr., Texas A&M University. The five faculty members will be recognized during the annual banquet of the Chancellor’s Century Council March 1 in Austin. Each will receive a $1,000 stipend, commemorative medallion and a certificate. Campbell and her fellow recipients will serve on the selection committee for future nominations and will be asked to present at the Chancellor’s Summit on Teacher Education in the fall. Campbell joined the WTAMU faculty in 2005. She teaches science methods, and her research interests include pre-service teachers’ understanding of the nature of science and gender equity in science. She is the author of numerous articles and has presented papers both nationally and internationally. She earned three degrees from Texas Tech University—a bachelor’s and a master’s in biology and an Ed.D. in curriculum and instruction with specialization in science education. —WTAMU— |
