WTAMU Moving Vermillion Limited Editions to Campus Location
CANYON, Texas—Vermillion Limited Editions, the internationally recognized fine art print production facility owned by West Texas A&M University, is in the initial stages of relocating its facility from Sunset Center in Amarillo to the Palo Duro Research Center on the WTAMU campus.
Vermillion is part of WTAMU’s Sybil B. Harrington College of Fine Arts and Humanities and has been housed at Sunset Center since the spring of 2010. It was acquired in 2009 from Steven M. Anderson, who founded the press in the late 1970s. Its mission is focused on providing a wide variety of fine art printing processes to contemporary artists of all media. Vermillion supports an environment of technical expertise for experimentation, collaboration and creativity. It is unique in that it allows artists to explore their artistic vision, engage in work with WTAMU students and faculty while receiving technical assistance of a master printer. Completed prints by visiting artists are shared between the artist and Vermillion, and a limited number are available for purchase.
The move to WTAMU’s Palo Duro Research Center will provide approximately 5,000 square feet of space for the Vermillion presses for lithography, intaglio, screen print, digital and letterpress, plus the large-scale Mailander press. Construction of the new space is under way and is expected to be completed in the next six to nine months. No date has been set for an official opening.
“We are delighted to have Vermillion relocate to campus,” Dr. Jessica Mallard, dean of the Sybil B. Harrington College of Fine Arts and Humanities, said. “The new location will allow our students, faculty, staff and the general public to become more familiar with this world-class fine art print production facility and to enjoy the quality and artistic expression of the visiting artists. It is our goal that works produced by Vermillion will be displayed both at various locations on campus and at Sunset Center.”
The University will continue to use space at Sunset Center for exhibitions and studio space for WTAMU art students.
