WTAMU Dance Program to Present ‘Dance in Flight’
CANYON, Texas—The concept of flight will be the central theme when the dance program at West Texas A&M University presents it annual spring dance concert at 7:30 p.m. April 26-28 in the Branding Iron Theatre, Sybil B. Harrington Fine Arts Complex.
“Dance in Flight” will feature works by WTAMU students and resident dance faculty members Crystal Bertrand, Edward Truitt and Leslie E. Meek. Additional works will include the choreography of Jamie Johnson, principle dancer with MOMIX Dance Company, Jonathan Charles, faculty member at Sam Houston State University, and Matthew Lindstrom, artistic director of Push Don’t Pull Dance Theatre and faculty member at Interlochen Arts Academy. The concert will showcase original works created especially for the WTAMU dance program and deal in some way with flight in pieces ranging from jazz to ballet and modern.
In one piece, Lindstrom and Meek will perform “Into the Wind,” a duet based on the concept of people who act as anchors and keep us grounded. Lindstrom also will perform a piece titled “Focus on a Distant Point.”
Tickets, priced at $11 for general admission and $8 for seniors and children, are available through the WTAMU Box Office at 806-651-2804 from 2:30-5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday or at wtamu.edu/academics/dance-dates-and-information.aspx. Tickets purchased online require a small processing fee.
