Toot’n Totum Makes $100,000 Commitment to WTAMU
CANYON, Texas—Toot’n Totum has announced a $100,000-plus commitment to West Texas A&M University as part of the University’s Share Your Pride campaign. The five-year commitment will help establish an endowed scholarship program to benefit students beginning with the 2014-2015 academic school year.
In addition to a cash donation by Toot’n Totum, a major component of the program will be an annual fund raiser by University student groups to sell $10 tickets for a chance to win a $10,000 pre-paid bank card. Toot’n Totum has underwritten the cost, and each student organization will receive $5 for every ticket sold to help with its specific needs throughout the school year. The remaining $5 per ticket will go to the University’s general scholarship fund. Increased scholarship awards help the University to recruit top students, benefit highly qualified students, and open the door for first-generation students.
Officials at WTAMU recognized Toot’n Totum’s commitment to the University at this year’s Old Main Society induction ceremony in August. The final results are expected to far exceed the initial $100,000 commitment, and the company was promoted to the Sustainer Level of the Old Main Society, which denotes giving of $100,000 to $249,999 over a cumulative period.
Student organizations began selling the tickets on Sept, 5 and will continue through Nov. 3 as part of the I Am WT student scholarship campaign. Tickets have been available at all 72 Toot’n Totum locations throughout the Panhandle since Aug. 19, and sales will continue for approximately one more week.
The winning ticket will be drawn at 4 p.m. Nov. 5 at WTAMU, and the winner will be recognized at the Nov. 9 football game when the Buffs face West Georgia at 6 p.m. at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium. The total amount raised, along with the names of the top student sellers, will be announced at WTAMU’s Leaders and Legends Scholarship Dinner on Nov. 12 at the Amarillo Civic Center, Grand Plaza.
WTAMU’s Share Your Pride campaign began in January 2009 with its lead gift phase, raising $20 million in endowed and non-endowed gifts. The public phase of the campaign began in late August 2012 and will continue through September 2014. WTAMU’s campaign total now stands at more than $32 million.
