WTAMU to Host International Student Conference
CANYON, Texas—International and English as a Second Language (ESLI) students attending West Texas A&M University will have the opportunity to learn more about the many services and resources available at WTAMU at an International Student Conference from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20 in the Jack B. Kelley Student Center, Legacy Hall.
The one-day event is designed to inform current international students about the many services available to them such as internships, employment services and student medical services. Representatives from WTAMU’s academic departments will be available to answer questions, and student services will share information about the many resources available to students at WTAMU. Student organizations will also have representatives there to encourge students to get involved in group activities and events.
“Most international students arrive on campus a day or two before classes start and are not able to receive the same amount of information and resources that local students receive to improve their experience,” Carolina Jones, a former international student and current coordinator of the Attebury Honors Program, said. “This is a new concept, and the students are getting information, free goodies and lunch.”
In addition to the conference, international student volunteers will begin staffing an information area in Advising Services. The information area will be open Monday through Friday from 12:20-1:25 p.m. and from 3-4 p.m. beginning Monday, Sept. 23.
Current international and ESLI student are encouraged to attend the event. Registration is available at wtamu.edu/internationalconference.
