WTAMU Nursing Students Seeking Items for Health Fair for the Homeless
CANYON, Texas—With colder temperatures on the way, the Senior I Community Health students at West Texas A&M University are working to make the weather a little less challenging with a Health Fair for the Homeless from 7:30 a.m.-noon Tuesday, Dec. 3 at the Guyon Sanders Resource Center in Amarillo.
The students are inviting area communities and service organizations to participate by collecting items that will help the area’s homeless population during the winter months. Items needed include new and gently used backpacks as well as new adult-sized undergarments—socks, undershirts, long johns and underwear—in sizes ranging from large to 2XL. Winter gear needs include gloves, scarves, warm hats, coats and jackets.
Travel-sized hygiene products also are needed. Donations can include soap, combs, deodorant, chapstick, baby wipes, toothpaste and toothbrushes. The students are also asking for donations of pre-packaged crackers and snacks, fruit snacks and bottled water.
Items can be dropped off at WTAMU’s Bivins Nursing Learning Center from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For item pick up or a full list of needed items, please contact Nancy Turrubiates, WTAMU nursing instructor, at 806-651-2639 or at email@example.com.
