Dogs to Visit WTAMU’s Cornette Library

CANYON, Texas—It proved to be such a success last semester that Cornette Library at West Texas A&M University is extending hours and inviting students for another dog-gone good time Monday, May 5 during finals week.

Certified therapy dogs from the Amarillo Obedience Club will visit from 7-8 p.m. as part of the library’s “Kick Back@Cornette Library” event. The “Kick Back” time runs from 7-10 p.m., and the dogs along with food, Wii games and yoga will offer students a much needed break from studying for finals. WTAMU finals run through May 8.

“It was such a hit in the fall,” Amy Pajewski, reference librarian, said. “We thought students really appreciated it so much that we wanted to bring them again.”

Studies show that spending time with a therapy dog can increase happiness while offering a calming effect. Petting a dog also lowers blood pressure and reduces anxiety. Dogs of all shapes and sizes will be at the library, and students are invited to come enjoy some cuddle time with the wet noses and wagging tails.

Cornette Library has extended even more hours for finals. The library hours during finals week are as follows.
• Thursday, May 1—7:45 a.m.-2 a.m.
• Friday, May 2—7:45 a.m.-10 p.m.
• Saturday, May 3—10 a..-5 p.m.
• Sunday, May 4—2 p.m.-2 a.m.
• Monday, May 5—7:45 a.m.-2 a.m.
• Tuesday, May 6—7:45 a.m.-2 a.m.
• Wednesday, May 7—7:45 a.m.-2 a.m.
• Thursday, May 8—7:45 a.m.-8 p.m.
