Professional Profile
Dr. Fisseha Meresa Alemayehu joined the College of Engineering in 2016 as an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering. He received his B.Sc. from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia, his M.Sc. from TU Delft, The Netherlands and his Ph.D. from Texas Tech University, all in Mechanical Engineering. He has worked as Post-Doctoral Research Associate at Texas Tech University for one year and as an Assistant Professor at Penn State Hazleton, for two years.
Teaching and Related Service
Dr. Alemayehu currently teaches Mechanics of Materials and Advanced Mechanics and Design. In addition, he has a teaching experience of Wind and Hydropower Energy Conversion, Computational Modeling Methods (Finite Difference, Finite Elements and Finite Volume Analysis), Dynamics, Dynamic Systems and Vibrations, Automotive Engineering, Vehicle Dynamics, Numerical Methods, Engineering Control and Engineering Graphics.
Dr. Alemayehu is the author of "Development of alternative techniques to invigorate student’s creative problem solving skills", "Probabilistic Performance of Helical Compound Planetary System in Wind Turbine", and "Loading and Design Parameter Uncertainty in the Dynamics and Performance of High-Speed-Parallel-Helical Stage of a Wind Turbine Gearbox". He has coauthored several publications and has made numerous conference and workshop presentations and invited lectures of his research work, both nationally and internationally.
Dr. Alemayehu is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Ethiopian Society of Mechanical Engineers and Society of Experimental Mechanics.
Research and Creative Activity
His research areas include Teaching and Assessment Effectiveness, Reliability of Renewable Energy Systems, Probabilistic Design, Probabilistic Multibody Dynamic Analysis and Probabilistic Prognostics and Health Management. His research outputs has been presented in international as well as national Conferences and has published research articles in International Journal of Mechanical Engineering Education, Journal of Mechanical Design, Journal of Computational and Nonlinear Dynamics and in several conference proceedings. Currently, he is working with his collaborators at Texas Tech University and at Sao Paulo State University (UNESP), Ilha Solteira, Brazil to publish a book on Probabilistic Prognostics and Health Management (PPHM).
